Cats

Cats or felines are small domesticated animals, often beloved of humans, who are valued for their companionship as well as their ability to hunt prey such as mice. Many people choose to have a cat over a dog as they are seen as being more independent, less demanding and easier to look after.

Cats can be divided into the two pedigrees and mixed breed or mongrel. Within these two categories are many varieties such as Siamese, Persian, Tortoiseshell and Tabby. A non-pedigree cat is often referred to as a moggie. These are what are termed domesticated cats which distinguish them from wild or feral cats.

Cats are often known for their love of heights and will spend many an hour up a tree or on top of a fence. They are extremely agile creatures who, if they fall, can twist themselves in mid air to ensure that they land on all fours.

They are also known for scratching which can involve household furniture such as an armchair or curtains, which can easily be ruined. Having a scratching post will help to curb this or failing that, spraying the cat with water will stop it from scratching.

Cats are in general, clean creatures who will indicate to their owner when they need to be let outside. If they spend any length of time inside, then a litter tray can be used as an indoor toilet which is easy to clean and maintain.
