Manx cats
The Manx breed are known due to their tendency to have a lack of a tail, the breed suffer from a mutation of the spine. This means that their tail tends to be shortened, this means the length can vary from a normal length to them being tail-less, a large number of the breed tend to have stub as their tail. The breed is also known for being fearless hunters and at a young age they have the ability to take down much larger prey.
Their hind legs are longer than their front legs which gives them an arch, which gives them a rounded appearance. They have particularly small features with little noses, eyes and ears, giving them a very cute appearance. Their fur can be a number of colours from, tabby to calico and they can have pattern to it. Like a number of other cat breeds they can be long-haired or short-haired, but either way their coat has a double thickness to it.
When Manx's are born they are classified depending to the length if their tail, these categories are; Stubby when they have a short or half a tail, Tailed or longy a near or complete tail, Stumpy this is there the tail is partial there, Riser or rumpy riser a stub of a tail that is most noticeable when they are happy rising its tail. The final classification is known as Dimple rumpy or rumpy when the cat is completely tail-less, the length of a Manx's tail is completely random through-out the litter.
Show Manx cats will either have no tail at all or stubbed tails, however they are only able to be shown under the any other variety class.
Manx syndrome' a name given to the condition due to Manx cats being the main sufferers of it, is when the mutant gene shortens their spine too much. This results in damage to the spinal cord and nerves around the spine which results in Spina bifida, this can also cause problems with their bladder and digestion. The condition does unfortunately result in death but not automatically some are able to live up to 5 years. Many would also think that Manx cats would suffer from balance problems due to the lack of a tail but due to their long legs and round features their balance isn't affected.
